Privacy
Your answers are associated with your profile. Treat answers, comments and uploaded contributions as information other people can see and share.
Account and profile information
We use your email address and sign-in information to manage your account. If you sign in with Google, we receive the account information needed for that sign-in. Your name, optional username, biography, photo and country help other members understand who is participating. Your email is not displayed as a public profile field.
Answers and contributions
We store the answers you choose, comments, reactions, proposed options and media you submit to display discussions and calculate results. Answers on public posts can be retrieved as part of your named voting history. The profile page requires membership, but that does not make your answers confidential: public answer data can also be accessed through the service's public interface.
Moderation reports and administrative records are used to investigate abuse. Do not include someone else's private information in a contribution or report unless it is necessary for the issue you are reporting.
Demographic information
We collect the demographic information you provide, which may include gender, birth year, education, state and political affiliations. These fields help calculate grouped result breakdowns. They are stored against your account and are not displayed individually as profile fields; country is shown on your profile. Published breakdowns use minimum group sizes.
You can review and clear demographic fields in Edit profile. Choosing not to provide demographic information can affect which breakdowns are available to you.
Operating the service
Authentication cookies keep you signed in. Hosting and security systems process technical request information to deliver pages, prevent abuse and diagnose failures. Your connection's approximate country can suggest a country feed, and you can choose a different country.
Opinion uses Supabase for accounts, data and uploaded media, and Vercel for hosting. Linked or embedded videos are served by their respective providers, including YouTube, which may process connection information under their own policies.
Contacting support
The support form collects your name, email address, request topic and message so we can handle your request and reply. You can also use it for privacy requests, complaints and moderation appeals without signing in.
Messages are sent through Resend to our support inbox hosted by Google. Your email address is used as the reply address. We use hashed network and email identifiers for temporary spam limits, and do not publish support messages on your profile or in discussions.
Changing information and closing your account
Edit profile lets you update your profile and demographic information. You can remove an answer by choosing that same answer again.
Closing your account deletes your name, username, email address, photo, biography, demographic answers, comments and unpromoted option proposals, and signs you out for good. It also clears the copy of your name, photo and email address held by the sign-in provider record.
Your answers stay, without you attached to them. A vote becomes a count once the person behind it has no name, no email, no photo and no demographic record. Erasing those counts would change the published result of every post you had answered, for everyone who reads it. Because your demographic answers are deleted, your votes remain in each post's total and no longer appear in its breakdowns.
We retain the opaque identifier your sign-in provider uses for you so the same Google account can return. If you sign in again, you start with a blank profile and your old answers and posts remain anonymous; they cannot be recovered or connected to the new profile.
Moderation reports you filed are kept, because they are a record of something somebody else did, and are visible only to administrators.
Copies may also remain in operational backups for a period, in provider records, and in content other people have already copied or quoted.
